As many of you are aware carpets never stay clean forever, no matter what color carpet you decide to go for or what type of pile you choose it will get dirty eventually and you may not even be able to see the dirt but we can assure you that it is in fact there. There are ways to clean your carpets at home yourself without the need to call a professional carpet cleaning team. Many reasons can speed up how long it is before your carpets get filthy. Kids, Pets, Parties (spillages that cannot be helped) or even just people that forget to take off their muddy shoes before they enter your home. All of these can reduce the life expectancy of your carpets.
Build up of this dirt over time can make it very difficult to remove and also makes it a lot harder to hide. You don’t even need to hire out a carpet machine which can be costly and also quite confusing trying to figure out how to use the machine correctly. This can also increase the risk of damaging your carpet if this machine is not used correctly. Before hiring out professional equipment take a look through your cupboards to see if you have some items that you probably never thought could be used to clean carpets, in fact that could even potentially bring your carpets back to a near new state. Listed below are the steps to Hand cleaning and removing stains from your carpets without the use of Professional equipment and Toxic Cleaning products.
1, First you will need to remove all furniture that is currently in the area that you wish to clean.
Move it into another room for the time being so that you can clean the entire carpeted space. Ensure that where you are storing the furniture is suitable to be left there for a while as this process isn’t quick, ensure that the furniture isn’t going to be in your way and make sure you give enough time to complete this process.
2, Using a Broom sweep over the entire area.
This isn’t to remove the dirt particles so don’t worry about piling it up, just simply sweep over the entire carpet to loosen some of the dirt particles that have got stuck to the carpet’s fibres. This will make the dirt easier to remove later on in the cleaning process.
3, Once you have swept the entire carpet and are happy that the dirt particles are now all loosened from the fibres, begin to vacuum the carpet thoroughly.
Vacuum until you are certain that all loose dirt debris and any pet hair has been removed from the carpet.
4, Using a bucket fill it with equal parts of White Vinegar and water.
Mix in some Bleach-Free mild washing up liquid. Always be certain to check that it is mild and Bleach Free; this is very important to be sure of. You only need to mix in enough to make the mixture slightly bubbly, you don’t want to make it too bubbly as this will take longer to remove the mixture from the carpet later on. A couple of droplets should be sufficient.
5, Using a soft bristled brush or a clean sponge dip into the solution and begin to gently scrub into the carpet.
It is best to work in small sections growing as you go. This ensures that you don’t miss any sections and also keeps the clean manageable.
6, Once you have completed stage 5 and have covered the entire carpet, using a vacuum preferably a wet/dry vacuum, Vacuum over the carpet to pick up any excess moisture and soapy suds that may be left in the carpet fibres.
7, To remove any leftover suds after the vacuuming process, dip a clean brush into clear, clean water and scrub it over the carpet a second time.
This can be very time consuming so ensure that you give yourself plenty of time to complete this process.
8, Now you are ready to begin the drying process, all carpets will vary and this will all depend on the type of carpet that it is, the thickness of the pile, the air flow of the room and temperature of the room.
The best way to dry the carpet as quickly as possible is to ensure that you have as many windows open as possible and for as long as possible. Sometimes even fans can help as they help to circulate the air in the room giving a constant flow of air.
9, Before you allow the carpets to completely dry, once the carpet is at a slightly damp stage, sprinkle some baking soda over the carpet.
Spread the baking soda liberally this will help to draw out any moisture and also absorb any remaining odours that may have not come out during the cleaning process.
10, Leave the baking soda overnight and vacuum up in the morning. You should be left with clean, fresh smelling carpets.
This is the easiest method of cleaning yourself at home without the risk of causing damage with harsh cleaning products, also without the cost of a professional cleaning team and their high tech cleaning machines. Although it can take some time it is a brilliant way to achieve a clean carpet without the cost.
