Before we start discussing how to cancel the SNOW app subscription, let’s discuss what is that app about. SNOW is a popular photo and video editing application, primarily used for taking selfies and adding various effects and filters. It is a popular app in South Korea even with idols. It was developed by Snow Corporation, a subsidiary of Naver Corporation, which is one of the largest internet companies in South Korea.
What makes it so popular is the wide selection of filters that even work on pets and the Beauty Effects. The tools to smooth skin, adjust facial features, and apply makeup that looks natural. And recently, they started using AI tools too that have advanced editing that is simple to use. That is why they also started to offer a subscription service called “SNOW VIP” or “SNOW Premium” that provides users with additional features and benefits beyond the basic free version. You can opt to pay monthly or yearly. But if you want to try the premium version, the 7-day trial is only available to those who are interested in paying yearly. Of course, many people will opt for the trial before committing.
But what if you realized you don’t need the premium version after all, or you just don’t like it? You can cancel right? Of course, you can, it’s easy… if you’re using an iPhone. But with Android, it’s a little tricky.
Normally, we just open the Google Playstore, go to Payments & Subscription, and then select Subscription. Find the app, and click unsubscribe. But I did and the SNOW app is nowhere to be found.
The second option is to open the app itself and check the account settings or find “Manage Subscription” to cancel it. I did that too and it just says I am now using the SNOW VIP Subscription with the date when it will expire.
And this is where I panicked. Because do I have to wait for the 7-day trial to be over and then cancel the subscription? My card is already charged by that time and requesting a refund will take a lot of process. I have to email the developer and then contact my bank to inform them about the refund too. After that, I have to wait 15 business days or more to see if I already received the refund. It’s a hassle!
I sent an inquiry through support inside the SNOW app regarding this issue. The reply was fast but they sent me a guide on how to get a refund for the SNOW VIP subscription service instead of instructions on how to cancel the SNOW app subscription.
I was a little upset by that response but I did not give up to find a solution.
So I tried to open Google Playstore through the browser and access the subscription here https://play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions and I finally, saw the way to cancel the SNOW app subscription!
On the Google Playstore subscription page, I clicked “Manage” and a pop-up appeared showing details of the app, upcoming charges with the date, and primary payment method. Scroll down and you will see “Pause payments” and “Cancel subscription”. Choose which one you prefer.
As you can see above, I opted for the cancellation. Not because I hate the app, it’s because I realized I don’t need the premium benefits. I mostly use it for cute filters for me and my cats.
