Pregnancy can be a very exciting time; however, there are moments of being very uncomfortable. Often, the first trimester and the third trimester are the most uncomfortable times. The first trimester may be plagued with fatigue, frequent bathroom trips, and morning sickness. The third trimester is uncomfortable because of how big the baby has grown, and all the weight makes it tougher to sleep well and again, frequent bathroom trips. Listed below are a few things you can do to make it a bit more comfortable.

 

First Trimester Comforts

You cannot do much about the frequent bathroom trips except to make allowances for the need to go. However, you can help to keep morning sickness at bay. Ironically eating can help to stave off morning sickness. The key is not to let your stomach get completely empty. Try eating small meals throughout the day. If morning sickness is very bad, stick with bland foods. Talk to your physician about taking vitamin B6 to help ease the nausea. If it is too bad, your doctor can prescribe medications to help keep the sickness away. However, only ask for medications if you have tried everything else.

 

Third Trimester Comforts

By the time you have reached the third trimester, you may feel as if you cannot possibly ever feel comfortable again. Especially the closer you are to your due date. Finding a comfortable position to sleep is almost impossible. The added weight can make lying on the back impossible. In addition, it is wise to change positions every hour or two to keep joints and muscles from feeling sore.

Sleeping with many pillows really helps to ease the pressure points in the body. Start with the feet; they need to be elevated to keep the swelling down. Prop a pillow up at your feet. Place a pillow between your knees to help the legs, particularly the hips to relax. This can be a bit cumbersome when rolling over, but you will feel a lot better if you make the effort than if you did not use the extra pillows at all.

 

The last trimester is very tiring. If possible, rest as often as you can. Sit back and put your feet up. Drink plenty of water, even though it may mean more trips to the bathroom. Water will help to keep the body hydrated and will help to prevent preterm labor.

 

Wear loose clothing. Tight clothing just binds the muscles, making it feel more uncomfortable than necessary. You may find in the last couple of months you will need even larger maternity clothes to fit over your swelling belly. Even your feet size may expand by a half a size. All over, your body is expanding and your joints are becoming loose to prepare for the birth. Make allowances in your wardrobe to help the body feel at ease through this transition.

 

Allow yourself more time to get to places, when you have to go shopping or have appointments. Walking fast at this point is almost impossible, so to help feel relaxed, allow more time to get there at a pace that is comfortable to you.
