If you were a teen in the 80's, like I was, then you remember the fringe trend of that decade. I had this pair of white leather fringe boots that I wore with my acid washed jeans. I'm not kidding. I thought I was so cool. Fringe and acid wash went together like peanut butter and jelly back then. In the 80's, if you could wear it there was fringe on it. Jackets had fringe that hung off the sleeves, and made you look like a bird that had an unfortunate accident with a paper shredder, handbags had fringe, shirts had fringe. Need I go on? Please don't make me.
Like most trends of the 80's and 90's, fringe is back. Thankfully, this time, it is much more stylish. Although, I am sure we said this back when it was hot the last time too. That said, check out all these fringe accessories for fall and how to wear them.
How to Accessorize with Fringe This Fall
Let's begin our fringe journey with these super elegant fringe loafers from Tod's that are in silver metallic have a subtle touch of fringe. These don't say cowboy, don't say bad 80's carnival Tilt-a-Whirl operator and certainly don't say metal head. The trend is addressed elegantly. With these shoes, I used these skinny trousers from Zara that work well with this relaxed grey sweater from French Connection. The outfit is finished with silver Style & Co. earrings, Kendra Scott bangles and bright violet bag from Lodis Accessories.
Outfit #2 Fringe doesn't have to look rugged or casual, you can make it look sleek and modern if you choose the right pieces. Here, I styled these Dolce Vita fringe booties with this tie-sleeve dress from Reiss. Fringe is also popular in jewelry. I added this fringe pendant from Bauble Bar to complete the look, along with this black Vince Camuto shoulder bag. Outfit #3 The fringe trend definitely lends itself well to casual and it definitely can look more rugged. When you accessorize with fringe this way you don't have to look like Annie Oakley. It can be done in a more subdued and stylish manner. Just keep in mind a little goes a long way. It's better if a pair of fringe booties, like this pair from Sam Edelman, is the only fringe statement, like it is here with this denim skirt from Lucky Brand and grey cashmere sweater from Theory, than it would be if you decided to wear it with a fringe vest and fringe handbag. Too much fringe and someone might start looking for your herd of steer. The outfit above is finished with a plaid infinity scarf from Nordstrom, horn bracelet from Faire Collection, grey handbag from Lord & Taylor, burgundy tights from Merona, and gold stud earrings.Outfit #4
Fringe handbags are fun. You get to wear carry the trend as opposed to wearing it. Here, this burgundy bag from Lucky Brand gives this classic weekend look a fresh update. This look consists of a pair of skinny jeans from Boden, chambray shirt and ribbed open cardigan sweater in olive from J. Crew. The outfit is finished with a pair of cognac booties from Modcloth, printed scarf from Echo Design and Robert Lee Morris gold chandelier earrings. Outfit #5 Here is another fringe bag in grey from Patricia Nash that is styled with a denim dress from Top Shop and accessorized with the same burgundy tights from Merona as used earlier, berry colored scarf from Urban Outfitters, colorful Kate Spade studs and grey boots from Frye.
