Special types of thermal equipment are used to burn waste in either solid, liquid, or sludge form. The fluidized bed incinerator, the MHF, the revolving oven as well as the liquid injection incinerator, are included in these systems. The potential for air pollution is one concern posed by hazardous waste incineration.
One method used to treat hazardous waste biologically is called landfarming.
In this technique, the waste is carefully mixed with the surface soil on an appropriate land area. Microbes that can metabolize the waste can be added along with nutrients.
