How Cannabis Works in the Human Body

By Alyssa Martinez @ItsMariaAlyssa

People report the physical and psychological effects of cannabis. This plant affects your eyes, immune system, blood circulation, breathing, memory, etc. The cannabis plant is used for its recreational or medicinal purposes. Many people smoke or vape. You can also use marijuana as an ingredient in food, beverages, topicals, and tinctures.

If you are unsure about why people use cannabis, you are at the right place. Here’s how cannabis works in the human body.

  1. Inflammation and Pain

Cannabis is used for reducing pain and inflammation in the body. It has THC and CBD, which are two primary active compounds found in cannabis that bind to receptors on brain and nerve cells, slowing down pain impulses and alleviating discomfort. It shows particular promise in reducing pain and stiffness in arthritis, neuropathic pain, and inflammatory bowel diseases. It is often used via oils, edibles, or topicals.

Award-winning cannabis seeds are considered a “superfood” that supports the human body through high-quality nutrition, essential fatty acids, and bioactive compounds. These nutrients and fatty acids help in reducing inflammation and pain.

Humboldt Seed Company is a renowned California-based cannabis seed breeder. This copmany is specialize in developing high-quality, stable, and legally compliant cannabis strains that effcet human body when consumed.

  1. Respiratory System

Smoking cannabis causes significant damage to the respiratory system, leading to chronic bronchitis, increased mucus production, coughing, and wheezing. While it acts as a short-term bronchodilator. Chronic use induces airway inflammation, structural remodeling, and, in heavy users, potential lung function impairment similar to tobacco.

Cannabis smoke weakens the lungs’ ability to fight infections by disrupting the activity of alveolar macrophages. If you’re a regular smoker, it can increase the risk of lung cancer, Pneumothorax (collapsed lung), and infections such as aspergillosis.

However, according to the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA), there is no evidence that cannabis smoke causes lung cancer.

  1. Lowering Blood Pressure

Cannabis, particularly through CBD, lowers blood pressure by causing vasodilation (widening of blood vessels). It also reduces stress-induced increases in heart rate, acting through the endocannabinoid system. It can cause temporary spikes in heart rate and blood pressure. Studies show it may lower systolic and diastolic pressure over time, with one study indicating a decrease of 5.0 mmHg and 4.5 mmHg, respectively, in older adults

  1. Treating Anxiety Disorders

Anxiety is very common today, so people use CBD to treat anxiety disorders. Studies show that CBD, a primary compound of cannabis, is effective for treating generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

  1. Fighting Cancer

Cannabis is not a proven cure or treatment for cancer in humans, and currently, there is no reliable medical evidence to support such claims. However, preclinical studies (in labs and animal models) have shown that various cannabis compounds, primarily THC and CBD, interfere with cancer processes through several molecular mechanisms. THC and CBD are used to prevent various cancers, treat tumors, and support the immune system.

Conclusion

After knowing the effects of cannabis on the human body, researchers are still conducting research on this compound. Scientific bodies, including the American Cancer Society, CDC, and National Cancer Institute, emphasize that more research is urgently needed to fully understand how cannabis compounds work in the human body.
