One thing you might not know about me is that over the years I have become a supremely anti-social person. I just cannot deal with people for long periods of time. I find small talk exhausting. And I am incapable to pretending to look "interested". Lastly, I have yet to find better company than books. Even when a book isn't all that interesting, it is 10 times better than any human! Or that's just my opinion. So while, everyone knows that reading is important, but for me it is not just an activity. It is my social circle, religion, hobby - all wrapped in one.

In this post, I will be sharing 8 ways in which reading has enhanced my life.

1. Exposed Me to New Things

Books have played an important part in who I have become as a human being. Each decade the books I read continue to shape my world view and habits and lifestyle choices. I have learned new things, gained new information, and found new ways to solve problems and achieve things. May be the books I am reading right now might change the course of my life for next decade? All I know is that exploration begins from reading and understanding.

2. Personal Growth / Self Improvement

Reading helps you form a better you, doesn’t it? Through reading, I began to have a greater understanding of the world and it's ways. For example: How to Heal Your Relationship with Food, Body, and Self, How To Think Straight in the Age of Information Overload, How We Got to Now: Six Innovations That Made the Modern World. I have learned about all of these topics through reading!
Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers. - Charles W. Elio

3. Improved My Understanding

The more you read, the more you understand how we got to where we are today aka the A to Z of a thing! In each field, people have already put in the hours. They have done the research and shared their findings and experiences. We can learn from it, or choose to go through it all over again, all on our own. Reading also increases the understanding of the rules of life, in order for you to adapt, adopt and accommodate into the society better. To play well in a game, you first need to understand the rules ... and then break the rules!

4. Helped Me Prepare For Change

In today’s world, getting reviews and feedback from other people can make a big impact on your next decision, and the pros and cons of each choice. I should know, I am a full-time blogger and all I do is share my views and opinions.

Read about how to cook a meal; how to play chess; which place is nice for the holiday family trip; read the menu before ordering food, read the manual before using a new gadget. These all can help you become more prepared before you really get into it. Before you take action on anything, where should you seek for help and guidance? I read "Case Against Sugar" twice before attempting a sugar-free lifestyle. Reading is an essential way which can help you out.

Read > Learn > Do > Achieve

Reading is a starting step of many things, which build a more solid stairs for you to climb up achieving something big out there.

5. Gained Experience from Other People

When you are reading, you are actually gaining the knowledge and experience of someone. It can hasten your success towards a goal, as you don’t need to repeat the same mistake. Books are like that gold mine, which contain people’s successes, failures and advice. Life is too short for you to keep reinventing the wheel. Especially when there is an easier way for you to learn and reach the end goal.
The art of reading is in great part that of acquiring a better understanding of life from one’s encounter with it in a book. - André Maurois

6. Tools of Communicating

Most of us communicate through words, either written or spoken. It is one of the most important tools we use every day to connect with each other. The more you read, the more you understand and thus the better you get at communicating. Through reading, you build a resource of words, and their meaning which form a foundation for communication. Reading gives you the power and insight to connect with the world more effectively.

7. Connecting Your Brain

While reading, I am silent! Reading connects directly to your brain. In silence, you seek more; in silence, your brain is clear and focuses better. Thus, you learn and grow, and therefore you feel and see from the point of view of the author. Hence your world view expands.
Because silence exists with total abandon, it is fearless. Because silence is fearless, it holds the power that can break through any barrier.

8. Boost Imagination and Creativity

From an early age, reading exposed me to a world of imagination, showing me nothing is impossible in this world. By reading, I learned to see things from different point-of-views without getting into a discussion. Through reading I also learned the valuable lessons about how different actions can leads to different outcomes. Books give wings to your imagination. Through books you can travel to the world you have never been, learn about people you have never met and live a life which is different from yours. Books are magical.
