How Bollywood fell in love with the idea of sequels?

Bollywood as in Indian Film Industry has been known worldwide for its unique content and creative choreography and it definitely knows how to make good movies, because we all have been showing our love towards them for a long time now. Oflate, when it comes to the music that is used in the movies you can see that many old Bollywood songs are getting remixed and are presented with a twist and the audience is totally loving it, let us not forget that all these songs are a great hit. This same trend has been used for the films too with sequels of popular movies receiving an amazing response. It is in the late 2000s that the first few sequels like Phir Hera Pheri, Munna Bhai MBBS or Golmaal first came into the picture and later as the craze for sequels increased, the audience could not control the excitement when Bollywood announced movies like Double Dhamaal, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Welcome Back, to name a few and the most recent Total Dhamal.

However, we have to admit that it took Bollywood some good amount of time to crack the code to make some good sequels. So though it took them some time to get better at it, in the end, it was all worth it. This can be seen in the massive box-office collections and love from the audience. All this response has led to movies like Simmba, which has kickstarted the first possible cinematic multi-verse in Bollywood.

One of the primary reasons why we think we love the sequels is because of the impact their prequel made on us, the audience. From last few years, many movies like Dhamaal, Tanu Weds Manu, Singham, Welcome, Masti and Golmaal were not only a hit among the audience but were also critically acclaimed. So in a way, these movies have their own fan base in India. When a director announces a sequel to these Bollywood movies, fans can't help but create hype on social media platforms, which eventually leads to a great opening for the movie.

Also, our obsession with Hollywood also got to do something with this affection for sequels. We love to watch franchise movies, something that Hollywood is great at. As seen in the past, Hollywood sequels like Mission Impossible, Men in Black, Ocean's 11, Terminator, John Wick, James Bond and The Avengers saw a great box office collection in India. While some of us were happy with that, there were some who wanted to see Bollywood get into the sequel game. But little did we know that Bollywood will not only get into it but also would make some amazing ones.

At times, I feel like even stardom has something to do with this because our obsession for Bollywood celebrities would never go down. We love to see them on screen, and if they are going to play our favourite character once again, we just cannot control our excitement, can we? It even gets better when it comes to multi-starrer sequels. Since most of the movies are good, more and more directors are considering to make sequels of some of their hits, we could not be any happier.

Sequels are everything that you can ask for. With so many to watch in the coming months, sequels seem to be here to stay in Bollywood. Don't you agree with me? What are your favourite sequels? Let me know in the comment section.
