Barry's Chichester Half Marathon
Barry Sullivan has worked for RTS in the Accounts Department in the Head Office located at Bermondsey London for more than 6 years. This is the first Marathon that Barry will be taking part in and his first official charity event. He says that training is going well "I ran 11.2 miles on Saturday and usually run 3 times a week, consisting of 2 x 3 miles and one of between 8 – 10 miles". The "Chi Half" as it is known is a challenging yet beautiful half marathon.
Barry has been a supporter of Hounds for Heroes for a few years now and says " What they train the dogs to do is incredible" This is a fantastic chance to help Barry raise funds to provide specially trained assistance dogs to injured and disabled men and women of both UK Armed Forces and Civilian Emergency Services. About Hounds for Heroes
Initially Hounds for Heroes set out to raise £100,000, which would pay for the first 5 Labradors and their subsequent costs for the rest of their lives. The Puppies on Parade Appeal was so successful that they are just starting their fourth appeal to purchase their latest squadron of cadets; they already have one squadron of puppies in advanced training and two squadrons in basic training at their Training Base in Petersfield, Hampshire.
The dogs are carefully selected for all the qualities needed to produce excellent assistance dogs. The Charity has a small army of Puppy Parents who help with the first year of training. The dogs then enter advanced training to turn them from well behaved dogs into fully trained assistance dogs that not only bring quality of life to their owner by opening doors, picking up items, getting money from ATM's, opening train doors etc.,they also bring companionship and love that can be missing when someone becomes disabled. When the dogs are fully trained the ownership is fully transferred to the disabled partner.
