FRIDAY FINDS showcases the books you found and added to your To Be Read (TBR) list… whether you found them online, or in a bookstore, or in the library — wherever! (they aren’t necessarily books you purchased).
This time for the July hot books feature, I am trying something a little different with the graphics. Instead of my regular collage, I experimented a bit to create a football-inspired visual (I’ve been crazy-obsessed with the World Cup all last month). It turned out gaudier than I liked, but still football is all about color, and vitality, isn’t it?
Hot July Books
Anyway, you aren’t here to read about me raving about the football action. What you want to know is what are the hottest books out this July, so here we go with my list of books I think will rock your world.
First up is Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. Moriarty hit my book radar when her book The Husband’s Secret blew up the blogosphere with all the rave reviews. I haven’t read the book yet, but her new book out this July also sounds very promising. Big Little Lies is about three women with small children and big secrets. There is a murder / tragic accident, and the story builds on from there. Sounds thrilling!
The next book I want to highlight is The Shadow Throne by Django Wexler. This is the second book in The Shadow Campaigns series. I read and reviewed the first book here. If this book is even half so good as the first one, it will be a winner.
The Good Girl by Mary Kubica is a bit of a wild card. This is Mary Kubica’s début novel, and I see on goodreads that there are many comparisons to Gone Girl. The story is about a kidnapped girl hence the comparisons, but I am hoping that it is also a strong psychological thriller with a lot of twists and turns.
Next up is a little non-fiction – The Skeleton Crew by Deborah Halber. This book caught my eye because of the Sherlock-ian cover, and the premise also seems interesting. The book is a series of real-life accounts of amateur detectives who find missing people and tackle cold cases. The reviews on goodreads are mixed, but I think this book still merits a second look.
The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen is out this month. I liked the book a lot in spite of a few open questions on the setting and the time-period, but it’s a book that’s going to be hot, and I highly recommend you read it.
Uncaged by John Sandford and Michelle Cook rounds off my July books list. I am a huge fan of Sandford’s Lucas Davenport books and I sit up and pay attention when I get the news that he’s starting a new series. It’s a little disappointing that this is a Young Adult thriller written in collaboration with another writer (shades of James Patterson here?) but I am willing to give this first book a chance as I really like Sandford’s writing style.
