Former frontman for The Walkmen, Hamilton Leithauser, just released, “In the Shallows”, the B-side to his first single, “Alexandra”. The two songs are similar in style and gives us a good idea of where his forthcoming debut LP, Black Hours, is headed. A consistent, upbeat drumline leads into Leithauser’s crooning vocals, and the stresses of the day wash away with the juxtaposition of his slow singing against the lively background. He rises and falls against a tinkling sound that brings to mind sunny Caribbean beaches. As far away as summer feels, maybe if we play this song on repeat (which isn’t hard as it’s pretty soothing to listen to), then maybe it’ll summon the warm weather finally. Fingers crossed.
