little Indiana is a particularly big fan of bread: and this amazing homemade wheat bread recipe is so wonderful you won’t feel like you need to buy the store stuff!

Not only do I love bread, but I love homemade bread (and apparently writing in third person). This recipe makes two loaves and lasts for a whole week.

That’s two loaves of bread that looks just like the store stuff (but without the preservatives). That’s two loaves of bread so good the kids wanted slices for snacks! From The Stay at Home Chef blog (full of great recipes on there!).

Wheat Sandwich Bread Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 Tablespoon Salted Butter,Cubed
  • 1 teaspoon Sea Salt
  • 1/2 Cup Honey
  • 1 Cup Water Plus another 2 1/3 Cup Water
  • 1 heaping Tablespoon Yeast
  • 4 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
  • 4 - 5 Cups All-Purpose Flour

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water and yeast. Let soften for five minutes.
  2. In bowl of an electric mixer, combine Butter, Sea Salt, and Honey.
  3. Add Yeast to bowl and mix.
  4. Add remaining 2 1/2 Cup of Warm Water to bowl.
  5. Add Wheat Flour and mix with paddle attachment.
  6. Add 1 Cup of All-Purpose Flour at a time to avoid a big floury mess!
  7. Add Flour until soft dough has formed.
  8. Swap paddle attachment for the dough hook. Knead for 10 minutes.
  9. Let rise in oiled bowl for 1 hour.
  10. Punch down dough and divide into two.
  11. Lightly flour board and roll each section of dough into a 10 x 12 rectangle.
  12. Roll up tightly and tuck the ends under.
  13. Place in greased loaf pan and let rise one hour.
  14. Bake 350* for 35 minutes.
  15. Cool 15 minutes before removing loaves from pans.
  16. Cool on wire racks.
  17. Store in airtight bags for one week.
