Being so popular, nearly every beauty brand has a kajal among its range of products, and that’s where most of us get it from. However, store bought Kajal can contain chemicals and impurities like lead, charcoal, artificial color or silver nitrate, which can cause irritation or a burning sensation in the eyes. On the other hand, a kajal that is 100 % natural doesn’t just highlight the beauty of your eyes, it can also make them healthier.
So why not try making your own kajal at home? Yes, it’s possible! The process is not too difficult and you get kajal that is one hundred percent safe to use on your eyes.
Important: Please note that homemade kajal or any other kajal is not recommended for infants.

Method:
1. To begin with, add a little water to the sandalwood powder and make a paste.
2. Dip the muslin cloth in it and let it dry out in the sun.

3. Roll the dried cloth to make the wick / bati.

4. Place the prepared wick in the diya and add ghee to it.
5. Light the lamp.

6. Push a fork through the almond.
7. Hold the fork such that almond is right above the flame. Hold the spoon just a centimeter above the almond.
8. The flame will burn the almond and the soot will get collected in the spoon. This soot is Kajal.
9. Another method is to place an inverted plate over two glasses. Light the lamp below the plate and burn the almond.

10. Scrape the soot and collect it a small box.

11. Dip your finger slightly in ghee and apply the kajal.

So that is how you make homemade kajal that is not just preservative and chemical free, but also has a cooling effect on your eyes. Moreover, this kajal also removes any excess dirt or impurities, and of course, make you look prettier! So get ready this Diwali with your very own homemade makeup – this also makes a great gift!
