Last week as I was getting my hair cut (don’t you hate when you ask them to cut just a half a centimeter and they end up cutting two full centimeters:) the hairstylist brought to my attention that they had a new product line that could do wonders for my hair. As she was showing me this new and quite expensive range of products, I immediately started going through the list of ingredients only to notice that they were filled with harsh chemicals.

As I didn’t buy anything in the salon I decided to look for a simple and natural treatment in the cosmetics section of the enormous supermarket where I usually buy fruits and vegetables. But not surprisingly, all they had were silicone filled products that just coat the hair and make it extremely greasy. It may look shiny and nice immediately after the first application, but as human hair can’t absorb this ingredient, it only sits on the surface and does nothing to improve the quality of hair. You can easily recognize silicones as they are usually listed among the ingredients that end with “cone”. Dimethicone and Cyclomethicone are just two examples of silicones, found often in skin care products too.

So instead, I decided to browse through natural beauty blogs and I found this simple and affordable recipe for a homemade hair mask. All you need is honey and jojoba or olive oil, mixed in a bowl or cup. Apply the mask on dry hair and leave it on for about one hour. If you have long hair, you should wrap it in a plastic bag to protect you clothes from any excess honey or oil. After washing your hair, you will notice how soft and hydrated it feels under your fingertips. Natural, simple and fabulous.
