Today, we will be making some unsweetened apple sauce. Once you see how easy it is, I'm sure that would want to make some too. So here is an easy and quick applesauce recipe, just for you.

First you take the apples and wash it really well. I cannot emphasize enough on the cleaning part, because, well everything is laced with pesticides. If you are brave enough to take a bite of an unwashed apple, you might meet Snow White's fate. I also added some cinnamon. Because I just love the combination. Apples and cinnamon - a match made in heaven.

Once they are clean, you need to core it to remove the pips. If you see the picture, you can see my old peeler peeking out, she's a bit camera shy.

Cut each apple into four and then halve it and put it in a vessel with enough water to cover it. Once it started to boil, you can reduce the flame and let it stew.Do check on it in between and give it a good mix, so that the apples cook evenly.

Once the apples have softened, take it off the stove and let it cool. Once cooled take the apples and put it all in the blender and blend it into a fine puree.

If you prefer a homemade chunky applesauce, just use a hand masher or fork to mash the cooked apples.

Note:
  • You can store it in an airtight container in the fridge for 5 to 7 days or freeze it up to 14 days. I don't keep it for more than that.
  • You can remove the skin before or after you cook. The puree is smoother, but you will lose out on some of the goodness.
  • You can add sugar according to your preference
  • A hint of lemon can be added if the apples are too sweet or if you are adding sugar.
  • Always opt fresh apples for making applesauce for babies and refrain from using canned varieties.
