The indie-pop duo HOLYCHILD is not only musically inclined, but they also collectively hold the perfect friend characteristics. From lead singer Liz Nistico’s sociable sincerity and charisma to handsome Louie Diller’s graceful, generous appreciation for where life has taken him so far, this band is real — with real people who are smart and write accurate depictions of life and its complexities.

HOLYCHILD is a band to keep an eye on — they’re two years young and have already been praised for their pop-indie prowess after performances at CMJ last fall brought an onslaught of honorable mentions. The buzz that’s been building covers all the right things about HOLYCHILD’s songs, sound and style. This LA-based band sings of the exploration of self against society’s entertainment-infused expectations. “Playboy Girl” is the song that focuses strongly on this witty sarcasm, keen awareness of oneself and ironic empowerment. The well-written songs are the fearless force of their optimistic energy, and they deliver a seductive performance that’ll have you hooked after the beginning of the first song.

It was also nice to see a crowd appreciate and engage with this cared for intensity last week at the Bootleg Theater in LA, as HOLYCHILD debuted their EP, Mindspeak. A video release of the EP comes with a three-part music video punch, shown above, featuring self-produced videos for “Happy With Me”, “Every Time I Fall” and “Pretend to Believe”. Do yourself a favor and watch all three videos — your mind will be happy to sing along. Mindspeak is now available on iTunes and Spotify and clearly speaks to the contemplation and contradictions our conscious minds face each day. You can also catch the band performing each night of SXSW and at NYC’s Popshop on Thursday, April 3rd.
