Holiday Series: The Lost Gardens of Heligan

By Bertyc @bertyc
There are so many lovely places to visit in Cornwall, I could just walk around all these places, taking photos, drawing and blogging every day. Every year we go to a garden, the last two years it was Trebah Gardens as it was near where we were staying. That is a lovely garden and I recommend a visit but this time we decided to go the the Lost Gardens of Heligan.
As beautiful and magical as they sound, we spent most of the day here as it boasts over eighty acres to explore. The gardens are 'lost' because although they have been in the Tremayne family since the sixteenth century, between 1912 and 1990 they were much neglected. In the nineties they were rediscovered and have become one of the most popular botanical gardens in the UK.
There have been many documentaries made about the gardens and there are lots of lovely clips here you can view.
As always, I took my camera. Here are a few of my favorite bits. I particularly like the walled garden, greenhouses, the jungle and the walk around the wider estate was very peaceful. All the colours, details, great wide expanses of green as well as dense areas of greenery made me feel like I was in an oasis miles from anyway. Such a lovely feeling! And an aesthetic FEAST, something I seem to seek out.
Where do you go to seek out peace and quiet?
