On the Facebook page yesterday, I promised to show you my holiday nails that I have been sporting all week. Truth be told, I'm quite proud of them. I had a (awesome) reader and fellow blogger ask me the other day how much snow(men) I really saw as a Bay Area-er, to which I respond: daily. Especially when it's on my nails. But truth be told, while I do indeed live in the Golden State that is full of sand, sun, and surf, it is also the state of snow. We do have Tahoe, after all. And in the hills of Napa Valley, to the far flung town of Redding and Weimar, California (and occasionally the BA) does indeed see her share of the fluffy whitestuff.
What California hasn't been seeing its fair share of lately however, is sunshine. Living with a creek behind my home, I get excited whenever it rains because it means that (hopefully) I'll be able to fall asleep to a the sound of water making its way through the hills. I don't mind the rain - rain here in Sonoma County seems to evoke memories of Interlaken, Switzerland, and I will take that any day. However, I've been stressed. Oh so stressed. Whenever I get stressed, I have learned that I handle it in one of two ways: I either shut down completely, or I turn into a persnickety scrooge of sorts. Basically I'm not that fun to be around. So much so, I don't even enjoy being around myself. When that happens I turn to the comforts of home. I nest.
I paint my nails (when I can find the time), I wrap myself up in fluffy blankets, and occasionally cry for no apparent reason. I talk to my cat, take baths, and watch shows that don't take much brain power. It's been difficult to muster any enthusiasim for anything. I think it's gotten to the point where strangers feel the need to reach out and "help": today I had a man in a department store stop me dead in my tracks, smile non-threateningly, and quietly say "would you like to come with me?"He gave me a makeover.Has it come to this, world?
I'm rambling.Although between the guerilla makeover, and the above Pho, all seems right with the world. At least for today. That, and I bought a lipstick.
