Hillary Clinton Is More Liberal Than Some Think

I support Hillary Clinton for president. Some of my left-wing brothers and sisters do not. They think she's too moderate (and some have even called her right-wing). But while Hillary is not a left-wing extremist, she is definitely left of center -- a true liberal. And that's a good thing, because the American public in general does not want an extremist candidate -- from either the left or the right.
Hillary is a liberal, but the "liberal" views she supports are views shared by a majority of Americans, and those views are considered fairly moderate (because they themselves hold those views) by most Americans. Consider the following:
* Clinton supports the right of ALL citizens to marry the person they love. Clinton spokesperson Adrienne Elrod said recently: "Hillary Clinton supports marriage equality and hopes the Supreme Court will come down on the side of same-sex couples being guaranteed that constitutional right."
* Clinton supports equal pay for equal work, and would work to close the gender pay gap.
* Clinton supports overturning Citizens United, saying she supports fixing “our dysfunctional political system and get[ting] unaccountable money out of it once and for all, even if that takes a constitutional amendment.”
* Clinton is on record as opposing Republican efforts to privatize Social Security, cut its benefits, or raise the retirement age.
* Clinton supports raising the minimum wage, and wage fairness for all workers, saying: “There’s something wrong when CEOs make 300 times more than the typical worker. There’s something wrong when American workers keep getting more productive, as they have, and as I just saw a few minutes ago is very possible because of education and skills training, but that productivity is not matched in their paychecks."
* Clinton supports tax fairness, saying: "And there’s something wrong when hedge fund managers pay lower tax rates than nurses or the truckers that I saw on I-80 as I was driving here over the last two days.”
Now, I don't agree with Hillary Clinton on everything (for instance her support of foreign wars), but then I've never met the politician I agreed with on everything -- and the Clinton/Obama views on foreign policy are not as crazy and dangerous as those of every Republican hopeful.
But I do like the positions she's taken on domestic issues, and if she could make some progress on these issues, that would be good enough for me. Whether you want to admit it or not, Hillary Clinton is a liberal (and always has been) -- and a Clinton presidency would be good for this country, and far better than allowing a Republican to live in the White House again.
