The first time we met we played a round of 5 Quick Questions with her. It was September 2016 in London, ON during Canadian Country Music Week in the lead up to the CCMA Awards. Shae was new to us, making new connections and memories in her young career, and getting ready to really make her move in the industry. After that we did more Q&As, watched her perform, and even had the chance to catch up at other industry events.
Fast forward three and a half years though, and we're back with a second round of 5 Quick Questions with Shae, plus a Q&A to give us some insight on her new single, Hesitate and herself. Now, before we get to our new round of 5 Quick Questions with Shae (scroll down for that video) we asked her half a dozen questions to learn a little more about what's going on with the song, more new music, and more. Enjoy!
1) First, congratulations on the new single being released in Canada and the United States. How does it feel to have Hesitate out to the world?
SD) It feels so good! It's like being able to physically hear and hold hard work in my hands.
2) You got to work with some great people on Hesitate. What was it like to have Derek Wells produce the song knowing he's worked with big names like Dolly Parton and Maren Morris and Blake Shelton?
SD) Derek was incredible! He really got my vision for this project and is such a pro, I really loved working with him.
3) It's been three years since your last single ( Liar) was released, has anything changed in how you approach your music or songwriting or career in that time?
SD) I think Liar was such a vulnerable song, if anything I've only gotten more vulnerable and leaned into that writing style since.
4) What can you tell us about what else is coming? Any hints or details about more new music?
SD) I can tell you that there's two more singles ready and set to release in the next couple of months and there's an EP coming out in the fall. Hesitate was only the beginning.
5) To anyone that's new to you and your music - give them a little info on who you are and why you do this?
SD) I'm Shae, I'm a Canadian singer-songwriter who loves writing about all the messy complicated things involving matters of the heart!
6) And for a little something extra, tell us all something that we wouldn't find on your social channels or in a Google search.
SD) This is so weird, but I have an extra vertebrae in my neck. It holds no purpose, it's just there.
