Hercules & Love Affair Share a Synthpop Stunner [Stream]

It’s been three years since Hercules & Love Affair released an album (their last was 2014’s The Feast of the Broken Heart) and between first single “Controller”, which features vocals from The Horrors’ Faris Badwan, and their latest single, “Omnion” (feat. Sharon Van Etten), album #4 is looking to be full of promise. The band, who became popular in the dance-pop scene with 2008’s disco-tinged “Blind” (which featured the incomparable Anohni), gets straight back to business on their two lead singles—if that’s what you want to call making perfectly danceable tracks.

While “Controller” was an ode to the ‘80s electro-hedonism of bands like Depeche Mode, INXS and New Order (the track has serious “Blue Monday”-meets-“Need You Tonight” vibes), “Omnion” slows things down a bit, and trades in raw sexuality for emotional honesty. Van Etten’s vocals have a sweetness and vulnerability that pairs perfectly with the swirling synths and earnest lyrics.

Listen to “Omnion” above and keep your eyes open for their forthcoming fourth album, also called Omnion, due out later this summer.
