Is there a huge electro/dance/indie pop scene in Ireland that I don’t know about? I’ve never been, so I would imagine so. First, we’ve been enjoying Two Door Cinema Club, and now we’re pleased to present Yes Cadets (@yescadets) — Belfast, Ireland’s electro, indie, art-pop trio. The band just signed with Humming Records back in June and is getting ready to release their debut album later this year via Humming/Rough Trade. In the meantime, the only material we have to enjoy is their debut single (called “Le Mans”) from the forthcoming album (also called Le Mans), but it’s good enough to make you want more.
While Yes Cadets apparently all share an obsession with Canadian rock and cite Prince, Wolf Parade, and Nick Cave as some of their influences, you can hear this for yourself on “Le Mans”. Self described as “dancing shoegaze”, and “maximist heartbreak pop”, I would simply pigeonhole them in the genre of “awesome”.
