Swedish quirk-pop songstress Sibille Attar had us combing the internet for traces of her work after hearing “Come Night” a few months ago. We just got another taste with “Julian! I Want to be a Dancer!”, which is based on Powell and Pressburger’s 1948 cult favorite film The Red Shoes, even featuring sound clips from the movie at the beginning and end of the song. Like the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale that the film is based upon, Attar’s track is simple yet powerfully constructed with a chorus line that you’ll be humming for the rest of the day. There’s a wild sophistication and standout cleverness in her pop that have us enamored and highly anticipating her album’s arrival in the U.S. sometime this year. Until then, listen to the excellent “Julian! I Want to be a Dancer!” above.
