There's a dress code in Amsterdam this May. And it's one you're probably already following pretty consistently. Denim.
And why not? Amsterdam does have the highest concentration of jean brands in the world, after all. It's the European headquarters of Tommy Hilfiger and Levi's Vintage Clothing. Brands like G-Star and Scotch&Soda are 100% Dutch.
So if you're heading to Amsterdam next month, be sure to bring your jeans, your denim bags, purses, backpacks, wallets, jackets, shoes. If it's made from denim, the House of Denim wants you decked out in it.
Neil Diamond may be forever in blue jeans, but the Amsterdam-based House of Denim is only interested in the days from 7-11 May for its inaugural Amsterdam Denim Days.
This celebration of all things denim will be happening at the Westergasfabriek and all over the Dutch capital, where brands, designers, and consumers can mingle and see what's new in the wide world of denim.
A two-day Kingpins trade show kicks off the event, which is a pretty big deal in and of itself, as it will be the first time the trade show has come to Amsterdam.
While the two-day trade show is strictly invitation only, jean lovers can get their fill at Blueprint, a division of Modefabriek. Here you can rub shoulders with denim's hottest brands, inspire, and be inspired. Blueprint also includes workshops, exhibitions, a vintage market, and presentations from Amsterdam's Jean School, an initiative of the House of Denim.
Innovation and sustainability are this year's themes, which will be explored on May 9 and 10 during the presentation Towards a Brighter Blue (another invite-only). Lectures and seminars with international guests from different aspects of the industry will delve further into this side of denim production.
You can catch Denim Days all over Amsterdam, as events and activities will be taking place in and around some of the city's most renowned denim stores.
Other events such as launches, parties, films, live music, food and drink round out the festivities.
