The Reason I Dressed
We’re developing a weekend ritual. We have lunch at home and then go out around 2:30 pm. We take our little man to the park to play and burn off some energy and then, almost magically, he falls into a deep afternoon sleep, leaving us free to roam, shop, chat and connect.
Although it is nice to get away and have a mini weekend escape, sometimes we just feel like saving money, cleaning the house (I’m not a good wife!) and moving at a slow and easy pace with no plans.
This is a nice little area of Modena called the Sant’Eufemia. In a little side street right across from Modena’s Duomo you can find this piazza hidden between converted buildings and ancient porticos.
We popped into a hipster (yes, Italy has hipsters too!) Cafè called La Bicicletta , The Bicycle, to have a coffee and ended up running into friends (the beauty of small town Italian living!).
What I Wore
The knit jumper is not a new trend. It has been around for a few years, and in fact my knit jumper by the brand STEFANEL is from 2012. I bought this jumper on sale along with a few other things because at the time I had seen NOTHING like it before. It was a pretty innovative concept to wear knit on the lower half, so I just had to have it! The pants were actually wide leg pants that I had altered into tapered pants along with a few other alterations.
When you are 150 cm, or under 5 feet tall, and all of your pants hemmed anyway, it isn’t such a big deal to get a few more modifications done! Actually, I’m really glad I made these tapered because wide leg pants make me look even shorter, unless I’m in 8 inch heels like in this outfit!
Imagine my joy when this winter “head to toe knits” made a huge comeback! Knit pants paired with matching long knit sweaters were everywhere on the Fall/Winter 2014 runways and even Zara dedicated a whole line to the knit jumper trend!
I’m getting my money’s worth out of this knit jumper this season as it is still pretty cold here. I just started a Pinterest board dedicated to the head to toe knit / knit jumper trend, feel free to follow along and see which looks I’ll be copying or get some inspiration for your own outfits. Here, I’ve paired my wool knit jumpsuit with a rabbit fur shawl, given to me by my mother in law who has fantastic taste and a knit bomber.
My Knit Bomber
You’ve seen this knit bomber before here. I also bought this on sale at STEFANEL ….hmmm…noticing a trend?
I love me some STEFANEL! This bomber jacket is COMPLETELY MADE BY HAND, and part of their limited Collector’s Edition line. It is a weaved cable knit pattern that uses a colorful hand-dyed wool yarn embellished with big buttons and trim.
I love this bomber. I LOVE IT. It is special, warm, colorful and handmade. It is also on sale right now here from $293 to $161. An expensive item even on sale, but as I mentioned yesterday, my new strategy is to buy less….much less…. and buy better!!
I’ve walked out of H&M AND Zara with no purchases this week. I just can’t bring myself to spend even 30 euro (which is like $45 Canadian!) on something that is obviously cheap. I’m saving up for a new pair of brown boots and perhaps a new coat for next year (unless you want to see another 15 posts of me in this coat! Which may just happen!).
My Rain Booties
These booties were an awesome buy. They were out of stock for a little while, but have since been restocked here. When I bought them Chelsea Rain Boots were NO WHERE to be found, but now they are everywhere, and this exact pair is in the shop windows of all of Italy’s top boutiques. They are by European brand JEFFREY CAMPBELL and they are comfortable, light, breathable…and super cool!
I wore these non-stop in Copenhagen and you can see them styled here, here and here in that beautiful and rainy city! I also wear them daily since I bought them and have no intention of stopping during the spring…sorry (not sorry!!).
So Who Won the Bag?
A few weeks ago I hosted a giveaway for this gold leather crossbody by the up and coming brand Be*Why. Thank you to everyone who entered, and with over 4,400+ entries I would say the giveaway was a huge success!!
