Harvest Monday - 17th November 2014

By Mwillis
This week we have endured lots of heavy rain, making the dark days even less attractive than ever! Harvesting has therefore been a rather hurried affair.
This picturesque Chicory went into a salad that accompanied a mushroom risotto:

It is a one-off in my garden. It came from the same pack of seeds as many of the red ones that were sold as "Palla Rossa di Chioggia", so I think it may be a gatecrasher. I'm not complaining, because I like variety in my salads!
I have written about these carrots already. They are 946g of  "Early Nantes", the last of my carrot crop for this year.

These are "Duchess" Parsnips. Fortunately it looks as if there will be plenty more of these!

I picked another batch of Brussels Sprouts. Here they are "Before":

They are not as big as I would like, but that is one of the hazards of small-space gardening. If you put a lot of plants in a small space they will almost inevitably be smaller than ones which are given as much room as they want. It's not something that worries me unduly though. I'm not growing veg for quantity, I'm growing it to feed two people, and I know that small sprouts are usually nicer than large ones!
