This week, Madalynne celebrates its 2 year anniversary!
For those of you who don’t know, I’ve been playing the blogging game since way before it was cool. A freshman in college, I created a personal page on Onsugar at the suggestion of my dad. Looking back, I think it was a coy tactic to keep tabs on his only daughter. Or maybe he foresaw social media’s explosion before most people. Who knows, but for 6 years, I was a really bad fashion blogger. Go ahead, check out my old page. You’ll see. I wrote about fashion-related stuff such as designer collaborations, runway collections and products I liked. Gag now! Then, two years ago, the Red Sea split, and just like the Israelites, I left a plaguing world called the fashion industry. I wasn’t led by Moses, but by hundreds of seamstress who welcomed me into the sewing community. My exodus freed me from the pharaohs of mass retailers and designers, and I now had the power to dictate what I would wear. Rachel, Anto, Bekuh, Natasha, Sallie, Heather - these ladies and many more became friends. Real friends.
I’ve made huge strides in the past two years as well as some flops. We can’t win them all, right? Yet, as I enter my terrible twos, there is so much I want to do. Publish Portrait of a Seamstress, start a pattern line, find new sewing friends, teach sewing lessons and workshops, become a better seamstress, be featured in a major sewing magazine, appear on a show like The Great British Sewing Bee and more. Every opportunity that has been put in front of me has been because of this blog, even my current day job at a major fashion retailer. We’ve had many late nights and early mornings, but it’s all been fun and in the name of something I’m very passionate about, the handmade. Madalynne is still young, and I hope you can grow with us for many more years.
