Happy 2013 from Singapore

By Agnes

landing in singapore
Caught the afternoon plane to Singapore two days ago to meet up with a couple of dear friends I haven't seen in a while. I am not the kind of person who rings in the new year in any kind of grand fashion and to be honest I am usually fast asleep by the countdown and fireworks. But staying in the heart of Orchard Road, I think it's safe to say I am not going to be getting much sleep tonight.

It's been almost ten years that I was in Singapore last and I have just about forgotten how much I like this city/country.

The suitcase I came with is pretty much empty as most of my stuff is back in K.L. -- by "most of my stuff" I basically mean my laundry as I hardly have any clean clothes left.

I imagine running out of clean clothes would be many of my fellow female traveller's perfect shopping excuse here (mine would be that stores here are actually filled with things my size) (in fact I feel like a HUGE fat sumo wrestler here!), however I must be the world's worst shopper. Good thing I've been traveling with guys I guess, I seriously doubt any woman could bear with my lack of excitement about malls for this long.

I guess I am one of those people who believe traveling can make or break a friendship. Well I doubt it could actually break a true friendship, but sometimes people who are fun hanging out with at home might not make good travel companions. You know, some people need to blitz all the museums and stick to some sort of imaginary tight schedule and maybe you don't care for museums and schedules, or maybe your friends don't care for museums and schedules and you do or whatever. I can honestly say that traveling with Lucky and Ernie has been a blast. By the way Lucky went home for Christmas but Ernie is still here and appares to be going strong.

Is it just me or does every window in Singapore have the perfect view?

Been really lucky with all the hotels, I think we got free upgrades at every single venue so far. Paying for a room and being greeted by an apartment-sized executive suite instead is never not welcome in my book. The secret seems to be this old membership I signed up for several years ago, and ever since I hit some elite status the free upgrades never seem to fail. Not to mention free laundry service, which obviously, I couldn't appreciate more.

5...4...3...2...1 Happy New Year!

Here's to an awesome 2013 {Singapore Sling in hand} {which is my excuse for any typo}, be happy, be lucky and may this be the year when all your wishes come true.

See you in the new year.
