LA-based pop star on the rise HANA is off to a bright start. Aside from Grimes’ Twitter announcement that she will be joining Lana Del Rey and herself on their joint Endless Summer tour, HANA’s glistening, somber debut track “Clay” boasts production by Canadian producer Blood Diamonds, someone known for teaming up with big names, including Grimes for her single “Go”.
The debut single showcases HANA’s ability to pair light bubblegum soundscapes with lyrics that truly impress with their depth of emotion. “You’re stuck in your own world, and of course you’re the star,” she coos in her crystalline register at the beginning of the track — lamenting a relationship that was ruined by selfishness. The similarities to Grimes’ brand of ethereal pop are evident in “Clay”, but HANA stakes a firmer claim on sincere emotion. Check out the track above.
