Halloween is quickly approaching, which means it's time to start one of my favorite traditions- BOO'ing! I have always loved providing a treat for neighbors and leaving them anonymously on their doorsteps; plus, who doesn't love having a good (as in positive) reason to go doorbell ditching? This year I wanted to provide some friends with a Halloween BOO Kit Making Party. I thought it would be a fun way to get the BOO'ing started and to spend time with friends. For the party, I went with a more "vintage gothic" theme featuring plenty of skeletons, spiderweb/ black lace, and even a hint at the Edgar Allen Poe poem- The Raven. (thank goodness my mother loves Halloween so much, I owe basically all the decor to her)
I decided to make my BOO Kits a little on the fancier side this year so that I could provide some of my girl-friends with a fun Halloween gift. I included some DIY golden pumpkin buckets, yummy treats, and girly gifts I knew they'd love. For the treats, I grabbed a bunch of MARS® candy from Walmart for people to snack on and fill the buckets with, but I also used that candy to make a special "Trick-Or-Treat Almond Bark". I thought it would be a tasty addition to the BOO kits. To complete the them, I printed off the BOO It Forward Card found HERE.
I wanted to add a Halloween treat to my Boo Kit that was delicious and fun. So I decided to go with a "Trick-or-Treat Candy Bark". It's a cinch to make and tastes great!
Ingredients
(from the MARS® Chocolate Mix Fun Size Pack)
M&M's®
SNICKERS®
TWIX®
Chocolate Almond Bark (sold seperately)
Directions
On a cutting board, use a large knife to cut up the chocolate almond bark. Place it in a sauce pan and slowly melt over low heat (do not turn up the heat or it will burn). Stir it occasionally until it has started to melt, then stir frequently. On the cutting board, smash or cut up your MARS® Chocolate. I left mine in the original packaging while I crushed it to minimize the mess. Once your bark has melted, add (most of) your candy to the pan and stir. Pour the mix out onto a baking sheet and even it out across the pan. Use the rest of your crushed candy to place on top of the bark.
Place the pan in the freezer until the chocolate is firm, then break it into pieces. You don't want perfectly cut squares for the bark, the beauty is in the jagged and uneven pieces.
Boo-Kit Supplies
Gold Spray Paint
Plastic Trick-or-Treat Bucket
Tissue Paper
Scissors
Ribbon
Cellophane Bags
MARS® Candy
Other Gift Items
Boo-It-Forward Printable (here)
Directions
A few hours before your party, take your trick-or-treat buckets outside and spray them gold with your spray paint. Let them sit until they are no longer tacky and are dry to the touch. Provide your guests with tissue paper, scissors, ribbon, candy, and the Boo-It-Foward Printable. Let them fill the buckets with tissue paper and MARS® Candy, plus have them bring or provide them with other gift items they can include. Since my buckets are going to some of my girl-friends, I included some lipsticks and nail polish. Then, wrap the Trick-or-Treat Candy Bark in cellophane bags and secure with a ribbon. To use the BOO It Forward Cards, simply Cut out the "We've been BOO'd sign, fold the "You've been BOO'd" greeting card (page 2) and tape openings together, then Include the card and sign when gifting BOO bundles. Add it to the bucket and you're done!
