Half Marathon Update #2

By Urbanbushwoman @urbanbushwoman9

webmd_rf_photo_of_woman_stretching_legsSo I’m still on the road to my first half marathon but I’m having a moment with running right now.  I have made it to La Douleur Exquise! level.  I suppose every runner goes through this during their training. I am in exquisite PAIN my friends. I went out for my long run on Sunday morning (5 miles). Then I looked at the schedule and saw that I had a rest day on Monday and a recovery run on Tuesday. However, with my crazy life I can’t run on Tuesday nights. So I switched my recovery run to Monday since it was a nice warm evening outdoors. That was a mistake. I didn’t even last 3 puny little miles. Every muscle in my body hurt from my upper back to my baby toe. I didn’t do anything yesterday and early this morning around 2 am I went back on the treadmill and did 4 miles. Tough start. Decent finish.

But now I’m in pain. Again. Last night I laid down to go to sleep and had these weird spasms in my thigh.  My glutes have been suffering for the past couple of weeks. No it’s not Piriformis or sciatica. It’s just a pain in my ass. Literally. I asked my husband to rub them for me. I said “think of it as foreplay”. He laughed at me. LAUGHED. Who does that with an offer like that on the table? SMH. I found a yoga pose that can help with this muscle issue. It’s the one where you sorta sit like you’re in a chair and you bring your ankle to the opposite knee.  This is best done on the floor and it helped give me some relief.

I don’t know if I can last to 13.1  miles when 0.4 mile is pure agony but we shall see.  Lesson learned here: stock up on the Advil and respect the rest day.
