Haim Return with New Track ‘the Wire’ [stream]

One of the biggest success stories over the past few years is, of course, three-piece, Californian band, Haim. Having very quickly landed themselves a major label deal, summer festival slots and soon their very own European tour, these three sisters just can’t stop kicking butt. Now, they’re back with another show-stopping number, “The Wire”.

Their new release has a slightly more “perfected pop” sound, probably the result of help from producer Ariel Rechtshaid of Usher and Vampire Weekend fame, but the track still holds onto the band’s critical elements — Danielle’s gutsy but fluent vocals and their carefully plotted percussion. Beginning with a drum beat drastically similar to the beginning of The Eagles‘ “Heartache Tonight”, the song slowly unravels into a series of complex layers, complete with subtle vocal harmonies, a catchy-as-hell chorus and a stop-start rhythm to finish. There’s no doubt that this will be a crowd favorite in no time.
