Despite the evolving nature of technology in today's digital age, there are certain things that haven't adapted as fast. Approximately 30% of iPhones suffer from some type of damage during the course of a year, something that hasn't really changed, and from those cracked screens we send billions of text messages without thinking about how long it's been since texting has evolved.
While our smartphones have made us forget about T9 Word predictive texting from 1995, there's another stage in the evolution of SMS messaging on the horizon from the smart messaging platform Gupshup.
Revolutionizing the modern text message
Gupshup may be a startup, but it's not the first startup created by Beerud Sheth, the company's founder. Sheth has founded many other companies and co-founded Elance, which recently went public on Nasdaq as Upwork.
Gupshup, which was the first company to pair up with WhatsApp Business as an enterprise messaging partner, currently has a turnover of 700 crores and is growing at a rate of 30% a year. Many tech startups and platforms use Gupshup to reach out to their customers.
"The messaging app hasn't changed much over the years, right from the feature phones to the latest smartphones, it's still just a simple list of plain text messages," said Sheth in an interview with Business Insider. "That was okay 20 years ago, but now there's a ton of messages that come in. Though personal messages have shifted to WhatsApp, enterprise messages still find their place in text."
Clearing the clutter in messaging
Gupshup will be introducing new AI-powdered SMS categorizing software to clear up the clutter in messaging. The software works by looking at enterprise messages and classifying them as e-commerce, real estate, banking, or others.
From there, any important information is extracted from the text and shown to you in a simple card. Sheth says the idea of the software is to give you a kind of personal assistant who goes through your texts and gives you the information you need.
Gupshup is currently partnering exclusively with OnePlus to launch the AI-powered SMS software. For optimal privacy, the software will be running entirely on the device and doesn't send data to any server. Every device you use will have its own software.
How does the AI-powered software work?
You can either have the software pre-loaded onto your new device or have it installed on your existing device through an over-the-air update. Once the upgraded messaging app is on your phone, you can use it to make reading text messages easier.
Here's how it works. When a new message arrives in your inbox, the messaging app will analyze the message and classify it by identifying which category the message belongs to. Then the messaging app extracts the key factors in the message and identifies the important information within it.
Finally, the app visualizes the message to the user by rendering the message as a card. Cards enable the user to focus on the key information because it reduces clutter.
For enterprises, this messaging app opens a new door of opportunities, especially now that a growing number of employees are working remotely when up to 86% of U.S. workers commuted to work just six years ago. With this new technology, enterprises can improve customer engagement, decrease customer support costs, and increase read time.
