Wild – Gulls

Alex Caplow, half of the electro-duo Magic Man, recently debuted his new side project Gulls. Formed with friends at Tufts University, the band plays summer pop songs that manage to find new life in the endless sea of lo-fibeach bands. Recorded in their Somerville basement, Gulls have offered up Down the Hatch, a full-length debut that is bright with promise.

“Wild” is an easy favorite, featuring a bouncy singalong chorus that’s made for teenagers bopping around in a sixties soda commercial. “Jason”, another standout track, soars with dreamy falsetto backing vocals and lines such as “Listening to the Beach Boys in my car.” It’s getting sunnier outside, and Gulls are here to make things even better.
