The Albums You Need to Know About Every Week
Hey, guys! Hope this week’s release day finds you well and ready to do some listening. I decided to (sort of) list the releases from oldest band to newest band this week, which takes us back to 1983 — the year indie rock vets Guided By Voices was formed. They’ve been in the game for thirty years now and are still creating relevant, really interesting music. Going even further back to 1966 are the greatly influential Brazilian psych-rockers, Os Mutantes, who formed in 1966, broke up in 1978, then reformed in 2006, now presenting us with some new, reggae-influenced Tropicalia to groove to.
NYC-based dance punks, !!!, drop their fifth full-length onto the scene to very positive reviews, mainly because it does what it’s supposed to (make you dance hard). Akron/Family have been on the scene for over ten years now, and their latest is a fresh spin on their experimental folk rock with odd effects and gorgeous spreads. Both the breezy, beach-drenched pop troupe, The Postelles, and avante rockers, Wolf People, are releasing sophomore records of different breeds, but both are albums that definitely deserve your attention.
Daughter, Cayucas, and Beacon are the freshmen handing over their first full-lengths this week, and we’re ecstatic about all three. Daughter’s low-key ambiance has often been the object of our non-stop affections over the past year, Cayucas is a beach pop record that’s fully capable of charming you silly, and Beacon’s electronic R&B minimalism is your ideal go-to for late night slow jams. Classics to newbies, here are the nine must-listen new releases of the week!
