Why aren’t users winning the war on privacy? In a recent guest post in Fortune, our CEO argues that in order to shield ourselves from privacy infractions, we need to take a step back and look at what is really at the heart of the problem. Today, many consumers get upset that companies have access to personal data in and of itself, which is an ineffective way to focus our efforts. Personal data is what charges new contextually aware services with relevance, and ultimately, it is what makes them useful to us.

 Tuttle writes:

“These data gold mines will only continue to grow, but so too should our knowledge of the potential misuse of our private information. Consumers need to put aside their generic privacy concerns and instead redirect their attention toward ensuring increased education, accountability, and transparency.”

In the article, privacy issues involving Path and Google Street View are analyzed to reveal the complex nature of privacy in this day and age. The piece also outlines what users should concentrate their efforts on instead. Privacy issues are not going away anytime soon, so it’s time for us to redirect our concerns and take action.
