Today’s modern kitchen is unlike any other in terms of the history of appliances. On the outside, these appliances may look and feel like the same kitchen appliances as before. However, the newer high-tech upgrades transform the kitchen into a professional chef’s studio for the everyday consumer.

Refrigeration for the smart home
Energy Star has rated a dramatic change in efficiency in the last few years. Many of these changes are related to how well refrigerators maintain their temperature without cycling the compressor on and off. The LG Smart ThinQ technology uses Wi-Fi technology to improve the management of the contents of your refrigerator. Imagine being able to have your very own inventory system for food to keep track of expiration dates as well as shopping lists for recipes. The technology doesn’t stop there. There are several new features in home refrigeration that both LG and Electrolux are implementing:
- Inner and outer doors to reduce cold air escaping from the main compartment
- Spot cooling for specific compartments to keep vegetables fresher
- LED lighting for more visibility and reduced operating costs

The advent of the of Wi-Fi enabled refrigerators has been expanded upon by Samsung. The Samsung 28 cu.ft. 4-door refrigerator comes with a built-in 8” LCD digital display that comes with special apps that make it easy to organize your food. Basically, you are receiving a tablet intelligently incorporated into your refrigerator. Other apps included in this smart refrigerator include Epicurious, Picasa, and Twitter. Yes, you can even Tweet out your favorite new recipe!

Hybrid cooking and baking
Cooking is quickly evolving for the modern kitchen. Induction technology is both energy efficient and fast. Prior to induction cooking, most professional chefs preferred gas to all other forms of electric cooking. However, with induction cooking the heat level is every bit as instantaneous as gas. Other benefits of induction cooking include increased safety and easier cleaning. Not to mention, it’s also cheaper. In fact, when using an electric induction cooktop, 90% of every dollar you spend on energy goes right into the pan!
Gas and electric have also come a long way in terms of efficiency with the use of convection cooking. This type of technology circulates the heat around the food for even cooking. It’s not surprising that appliances such as the Electrolux hybrid cooktop and dual fuel ranges are offering the best of both worlds. These types of appliances offer smart chip technology that can cook food based on type and weight. Appliance repair companies may be able to service these new dual fuel ranges for maximum efficiency.
Now imagine for a moment cooking a turkey for Thanksgiving and simply selecting a mode that can sense the weight and type of meat in the oven. Better yet, imagine controlling the temperature and cooking time with a few simple key presses on your smartphone! The LG Lightwave oven allows you to do just this. A simple to use app allows you to cook an entire meal while you are away from the house. How convenient is that?

Time-saving cleaning
Not only do recent innovations in developing high efficiency washing machines make sense from an economic point of view, but these washers also reduce the amount of wear and tear on fabric over time. The Samsung front and top load washers now feature a deep clean technology that reduces the chance of allergies by rotating the drum at specific intervals and using less detergent. The touchscreen technology features antibacterial washing cycles, steam cycles for sweaters, and quiet anti-vibration technology for those long laundry days that need peace and quiet.
