CHICK FLICKS MAKE US CRY AND LAUGH, BUT THEY ALSO MAKE US FASHIONABLE!
Guest Post || Chick Flicks And Fashion
What do we really love about chick flicks and rom-coms? Is it the love? Is it the Prince Charming? Or is it the fashion?
Though all these things play a major role in making these movies appeal to the viewers, for me, the fashion plays a huge role. After watching Confessions of a Shopaholic, I almost blew off all my savings! After watching The Devil Wears Prada, I started dreaming about a job at Vogue (for all the free clothes).
Since I am just 18, my knowledge of fashion comes majorly from various fashion magazines and movies. And like me, most of the girls draw their fashion inspiration from on-screen fashion divas. Isla Fischer, Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Sarah Jessica Parker have immortalized fashion on screen. Even television shows like Gossip Girl and Mad Men are known for their fashion more than anything else.
It is not only in recent times that the fashionable aspect of movies has come to light. Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe were the first fashion icons of Hollywood. After all, who can forget Marilyn Monroe’s iconic white dress in The Seven Year Itch or Audrey Hepburn’s little black dress in Breakfast at Tiffany’s?
Clothes also play a major role in shaping the character. For example, in high school chick flicks, the mean girl always wears designer clothes that are color coordinated with her minions’ clothes while the protagonist has a plain Jane style (even then, she gets the guy at last!).
Here are some on-screen characters whose wardrobe made us green with envy…..

1. Blair Waldorf (Gossip Girl)
Blair had a wardrobe just like a princess’. Her clothes had an understated elegance. She was lucky to get married twice because she got to wear two absolutely stunning wedding gowns (Vera Wang and Elie Saab)! For a Blair-like wardrobe, we need to stock up on colored tights, headbands with bows and a gazillion shoes. After all, we might find our prince charming by losing a Roger Vivier!

2. Miranda Priestly (The Devil Wears Prada)
She was best known for being a cruel boss. But what made her even meaner was her wardrobe. Hers was a perfect example of a power wardrobe. The dropping of her coats ruthlessly on Andy's table wouldn’t have had such an impact if the coats had not been painfully beautiful!
3. Rebecca Bloomwood (The Confessions of a Shopaholic)
Going bankrupt had never been so fashionable! Rebecca Bloomwood had created a mess of her life by going under a debt, losing her best friend and losing the love of her life. One thing that stayed with her through tough times was the wardrobe full of shoes and dresses and bags.

4. Betty Draper (Mad Men)
Who doesn't love vintage? To have an entire wardrobe full of everything vintage is really a blessing. Betty draper is child-like and immature but she is impeccably dressed in the best of 60s fashion. Her flowy dresses cinched at the waist, her elegant coats and her hairbands have made every girl eyeing her wardrobe.

5. Holly Golightly (Breakfast at Tiffany’s)
She is the epitome of grace, elegance and panache. Everything classic can be found in her wardrobe. Holly was so confused about love, but her confusion cannot be seen at all in her fashion choices. Coco Chanel might have introduced the LBD, but it was Holly who immortalized the Little Black Dress.
