How To Get Free Makeup Samples

That’s usually the first thing I’m asked when I tell people I write about beauty products and fashion on my blog.
My answer…
I really wish I knew. There has to be a secret formula to getting freebies. That’s a formula I haven’t decoded yet. 99.1% of the things reviewed on Girl Rates World are purchased by me. The other .9% I got by pure luck or using the methods I will go into shortly.
There are a few proven ways to get free stuff. Thing is, it’s not always easy or convenient. You may have to give up something in return – giving up things like your facebook profile to your first born child. Sounds dramatic {I know}. But you’ll be surprised at the things you have to do to get a .05 oz sample.
Okay. So all dramatics aside. If you are a blogger, budget seeker or simply cosmetics-crazed, free product samples are great. Not just because they are free. But they are a way to discover new and exciting products!
become a product tester – can I really?

So much easier said…than done. Over the years I’ve scoured the web signing up for dozens of services that promised to connect me with brands. After filling out a handful of 1,000 page questionnaires and forking over my personal information, I can’t remember getting anything {worthwhile} in return. Oh, there was more junk mail of course.
really, really read your mags

Do you pay attention when you read your favorite magazines? Once you get passed all the vivid and enticing pictures, pay close attention to the ads and small text. Most magazines have ads where you can send in a postcard or simply go to a website and express interest in a product. For your genuine interest and time, companies will send it to you free for you to try.
vloggers and bloggers need love too

Tons {and I mean tons} of YouTube beauty gurus and bloggers host giveaways and contests online in exchange for likes or comments. With a little luck and patience you can enter to win all sorts of things. This too is a way to get exposed to new and exciting things. You receive free products and the opportunity to meet new online personalities. SN: As a beauty blogger/vlogger, please really show love back.
give up your email address or else…

Go ahead. Join an email list {don’t forget to join Girl Rates World newsletter too}. If there’s a certain brand that you are particularly fond of, sign up for their email list or become a Facebook fan. You will be notified of their special events, product launches and sales/clearances. The best part. They usually offer samples to their subscribers and fans first before offering to the general public.
The new hype: monthly box services

I know. I know. This isn’t free. But it’s another way for you to get your hands on several new items, get exposed to different brands or try things before they are on the market (or even distributed). There are oodles of these out there too. Subscription services like beauty box 5 send out samples monthly whereas services like fancy box send out celebrity-selected must haves.
Have you tried any of these methods? What was the last free sample you received? Have you ever won a youtube or blog giveaway? What did you win? The last giveaway I won was for a $100 gift certificate to ASOS. I still haven’t used it and that was over a year ago.
