Grace Joyner Pulls Us In With ‘Knees’ [Premiere]

After about two years, Grace Joyner is resurfacing with new music in the form of Maybe Sometimes in C. Her work revolves around snapshots of intimate experiences and, as we listen, we find ourselves absorbed in narration through her elegant voice. The song we’re pleased to premiere today is one of vexation over a careless lover. “Take your seat/I’m not your ancient queen/To meet you in your weakness/Oh what a shit thing to believe.”

Keeping it in the Hearts & Plugs family, Joyner’s record was produced by Wolfgang Zimmerman (Brave Baby). With pop vibes that lift a glass to the 70s, Joyner’s Maybe Sometimes in C is an affirmative step forward in terms of songwriting. These songs are straightforward, confident, and just really damn good. Take a sampling with the premiere of Grace Joyner’s “Knees” above. Maybe Sometimes in C drops May 20 via Hearts & Plugs. Pre-order it on CD or cassette here.
