GOVBALL GOVERNORS BALL PREVIEW [FESTIVAL]

It’s here! It’s here! NYC’s very own festival. The second year of the festival is promising to be incredible, bringing in performances by some of the most sought after acts in the business. The best part about Governors Ball, absolutely no overlapping sets. You don’t have to choose between any of the amazing acts, you can see each and every one of them. Have fun this weekend and we’ll see you there!

HEADLINERS GOVERNORS BALL PREVIEW [FESTIVAL]

This is perhaps one of the best line-ups Governors Ball has ever seen, or is likely to see in a long while, based completely on the headliners. Saturday, Passion Pit and Kid Cudi take the stage on the island for some serious partying, while Sunday showcases a rare Fiona Apple performance after which Beck will take to the stage — these are sure to be two of the most memorable performances of the summer.

51 GOVERNORS BALL PREVIEW [FESTIVAL]

1) Fiona Apple hardly ever performs, but when she does it’s always an event. Her newest album, The Idler Wheel…, came out only this week, and she already has critics swooning. This show is the only NYC date she has on her very short tour, and it’s sure to be electrifying — definitely don’t miss this rare chance to see one of the most influential artists around.

2) Beck (@beck) isn’t promoting anything presently, and that can only mean one thing: a show of greatest hits. And if one thing is for sure, it’s that his hits are out of this world.

3) Penguin Prison (@penguinprison) follows Saturday’s theme of incredible dance acts with their groovy electro funk. They always put on an incredible show, and though we’re used to seeing them late at night and in cramped, sweaty spaces, we bet they’ll more than rise to the occasion.

4) Special Disco Version features two incredible DJs, Pat Mahoney and James Murphy, spinning the best of their rare disco collection. Just because LCD Soundsystem is gone doesn’t mean you can’t dance like you did when they were still around.

5) Explosions in the Sky (@eits) make everything more epic. Their special brand of post-rock will fit the Governors Island vista of the city perfectly, filling up all the space around it. They are slated to play in the late afternoon, right as the light starts to fade. There’s no better way to ring in the headlining sets.
