Google’s New Driverless Car is So Tiny and Comes Without a Steering Wheel

Posted on the 28 May 2014 by Nrjperera @nrjperera

Google has unveiled its first prototype of fully self-driving vehicles, which comes without the most important fundamental controls of a normal vehicle, because according to Google, these vehicle don’t need them.

“We’re now exploring what fully self-driving vehicles would look like by building some prototypes; they’ll be designed to operate safely and autonomously without requiring human intervention,” director of Google’s Self-Driving Car Project, Chris Urmson wrote on a blog post.

According to Urmson, this adorable-looking two-seater was built by Google from scratch and it tops in at 25 mph. Even though it’s a prototype vehicle, this car seem to work real smoothly all by itself. You can check out the video to see it in action.

Imagine jumping into your car and saying “OK Google, take me to work” and just brush your teeth and put on your suit while you’re on the way. It will make Mr.Bean’s old skit look ridiculous but let me tell you, that day is nearer than you might think.

“You can take a trip downtown at lunchtime without a 20-minute buffer to find parking. Seniors can keep their freedom even if they can’t keep their car keys. And drunk and distracted driving? History.”

Google plans to put these vehicles into test this summer by building 100 prototypes, to learn and see how it performs. If everything goes according to plan, Google will launch a pilot program in California to bring these self-driving cars to streets.
