Go Ahead, Raid My Bookshelf
I've love reading ever since I was a little girl. If I let myself, I could spend a week straight in my bed lost within the pages of a book. But if I did that I would probably smell, be really hungry, and be some weirdo with no friends. So I don't let myself get too carried away.
When I do make time to read I tend to be drawn toward series. I think it's because I get semi-depressed when books end. It's been a good little while since I've found a series that's captivated my attention so I decided to go for something a little bit different this time around. A little something I like to call "brain candy." Basically, a book with no real literary value, but instead something that's just fun to read.

I just finished up Girls In White Dresses by Jennifer Close. Such a cute book, y'all. Let me be forward for a second though: this is not a not a book worthy of literary merit by any means. It wasn't the most well written book I've ever read. However, I don't usually laugh out loud too often when I read books, and this one had me spitting my wine out. It's basically about 3 girls who feel like all of their friends are getting married. They are fresh out of college and ready to see what the world has to offer (or what they have to offer the world). Little do they know what's ahead...the real world, dun dun dun.
I thought it was funny how I could relate to some of the things that the girls were going through. A lot of people I know are getting engaged (and some even having babies...wow, I cannot imagine that at all in my life right now), and that's a lot of what this book is about. Plus, I thought (for some ungodly reason) that I would finish college and BOOM be magically working my dream job. Here I am almost a year later without a clue as to what that dream job is. I also connected with the sarcastic attitudes that the girls had...those were the parts that had me laughing the most.
This wasn't a book that I would rush home to stick my nose in. But when I did make time to read it (like when I was taking a bubble bath or laying by the pool), it held my interest. If that makes sense. If you're looking for a quick & fun read then I would say give this book a shot. I will warn you that it doesn't have a specific plot...it kind of bounces around, describing different things that the girls went through throughout their 20s. I think the author did a good job of tying the stories together and giving the reader a sense of who each girl is, though.
Have you read it? What did you think? I just started reading The Night Circus, so that's next on the Raid My Bookshelf list.
