With Zach overseas this year, I've been sending packages and letters to make him smile while being so far away from family and friends. I like to send fun things that will make him smile, but I also like to include enough for him to share with the other soldiers deployed with him.
Since it's November, the month of Thanksgiving, we often reflect on who and what we are thankful for. I am extremely thankful for my husband and the thousands of men and women who sacrifice so much to protect our great country. I also hate that some, like my husband, have to spend the holidays apart from their families. I know for most, this is the hardest time of the year.
So I wanted to send goodie bags to Z and his friends to raise their morale and give extra this year. Let them know that I'm thankful for everything they do and that they are making so many people over here proud of them.
One of the things that stuck out in my mind was the time it took for him to get overseas. Multiple planes, flights, airports, etc... can't be very fun! Since they can't shower anywhere, the best they can do is wash their face or brush their teeth for a little refresher. So that's how I came up with this idea!
"Thinking of you and all you do makes us smile. Here are a few things to help you take care of yours."
Toothbrush with toothpaste.Mouthwash.
Extra gum. Chapstick.
What seems like a simple gesture to us will mean a heck of a lot more to a soldier who is away from their friends and family. Especially during the holidays. SO take a second this holiday season and let someone know how much they mean to you. Hopefully this comes in handy when they start the long haul back to America, whenever that may be. But seeing this little note will remind them they are appreciated and we are always thinking about them.
