Here is a young lady holding a book that she is almost certainly not going to read. Painted by one Léon François Comerre ( 1850 – 1916) who as you can probably guess from his name was French.
I don't actually like this painting all that much, because the painter has made this undoubtedly pretty girl look a bit vacuous. It's called Girl with a Golden Wreath, and seems fairly typical of this artist, who seems to have specialised in painting attractive women doing not much at all except being rather scantily clad. His paintings were very popular, perhaps for obvious reasons.
