Painted by the incomparable Carl Larsson (1853-1919), this is actually called 'A Late Riser's Miserable Breakfast'. Larsson had a shockingly awful start in life -- abject poverty and deprivation, an abusive father -- but was lucky enough to be rescued by an enlighted school teacher and ended up as a hugely successful graphic artist and watercolourist. He seems to have been happily married and lived an idyllic life in the Swedish countryside with his numerous children, who he painted frequently. I'm not sure which one this little girl is, but she's obviously not very happy about her rather plain and solitary breakfast.
