Gift Shopping For Nepal – Part 1: Mamu

By Hanna

***SPOILER ALERT***

I have been looking forward to writing this post ever since M went back. Not long after, I started noticing little gifts that I know that he would love. Soon after that his family in Nepal started finding out about me and I was finding and imagining gifts that I thought they would like. So many times I have had to talk myself out of buying there and then. But, I have managed to wait until now to start properly shopping for my trip.

So, I have started with the most difficult - the present for my MiL. I had been searching gifts for days and days going through every shop and thinking of different items to get her.  If shopping for your MiL is not daunting enough, it is even worse when you have not met her and do not know her taste. Most of what I found could have been brought in Nepal and other things I liked might not have been needed or used.

Everyone warned me: stay away from jewellery and stay away from clothes. After racking my brains for other options I found myself coming back round to the idea of jewellery again after something caught my eye. That ‘something’ was a bracelet with a personalised engraved message on the inside. I ummed and ahhed for a good few days before I could commit to buying. Yet, I finally decided to take the plunge and I hope she will like it. I am glad I did as the bracelet arrived today and it is beautiful!

Ok, so perhaps I wasn’t being completely honest at the beginning of my post… I did give in to some shopping at Christmas but I managed to resist the urge of sales shopping and only brought one gift. M had asked me to bring over a duvet for Mamu’s father as the ones in Nepal are not the greatest quality.

Gift Shopping For Nepal – Part 1: MamuI thought only the best will do and got a 15 tog duvet that is made of two different tog duvets which can be joined and separated. The weather in Nepal can get really cold in winter with no heating so I thought he has some control over the tog that way.

Now the presents for Mamu are out of the way, I now have the rest of the family and grandparents to buy for, not forgetting A dai of course. Stay tuned for the next update!
