Our family is going to the beach this summer, and I’m already preparing! Since I don’t want to slather my family in cancer-causing chemicals found in most products out there (even a lot of “natural” ones) I just placed an order for Badger Sport SPF 35 All-Natural Sunscreen:
Order Badger Sunscreens fro Amazon:
Order Badger Sunscreens from Vitacost.
We also apply coconut oil daily which builds up a natural sunscreen in the skin, while still allowing for Vitamin D3 production.
Also, a healthy diet is one of the best things you can do to prevent sunburn. We do this daily as well as get plenty of vitamin D3, and blue-green algae in the form of spirulina and chlorella, found in our green powder supplement. I simply add it to our smoothies! All of these help your body to be resistant to sunburn.
Order Green Vibrance from Amazon:
Order GREEN VIBRANCE from Vitacost.
We will also be donning hats to protect ourselves further.
I love the sun, and greatly value the benefit of getting enough exposure. However, a stint at the beach would prove too much, which is why we are taking some precautions.
I don’t put sunscreen on me or my kids unless we are going to be out in the direct sun for more than an hour or so because I believe that vitamin D, especially the kind obtained naturally from the sun, is absolutely essential to cancer prevention (reduces your risk by 77%!) and overall health and wellness. For healthy bones and teeth, to a strong immune system, to a healthy heart and kidneys, the body desperately needs the sun!
Not to mention the positive emotional/psychological effect that sun exposure has!
Studies are linking skin cancer more to the harmful chemicals found in the sunscreens than to the sun directly.
Sunburn is harmful.
Sun exposure is vital!
Fortunately, a lot of companies are catching up with the research and technology, so there are lots of good ones out there! Here is a list of chemicals to avoid when buying sunscreen:
octinoxate, oxybenzone, octocrylene, octisalate, homosalate, avobenzone, octyl methoxycinnamate
Keep in mind, no sunscreen is waterproof, only water-resistant! So reapplication is necessary with all of them.
How is your family preparing for the summer?
live well. be well.
