Washington D.C. is known for more than just monuments, cherry blossoms and political scandals. Jazz, go-go, and hardcore punk all played a huge influence in shaping the city’s music scene, and in turn fans helped push these genres into the mainstream world. Rock is taking center stage with this up-and-coming band: Dead Professional. They hail from our nation’s capital, and we think they’re a lot cooler than lobbyists, amendments and sequesters. Dead Professional is straightforward rock — not really punk rock or garage rock,  just simply rock. It’s reminiscent of Lou Reed and a little bit of Jackson Browne. They play clean and effortless guitar riffs with solid rhythms. Lead singer John Harouff has a voice that’s unpretentious and sits in a space that can either fill your mind or help it drift away. We’ve been following them since 2013, and since then they’ve opened for the likes of Ryan Adams and have put out an EP as well as a few videos. Plus, there’s talk of a much heavier tour this year as well as a full-length album. Listen above and enjoy!
