Its monsoon season in India and clouds are showering the bliss all across the land, providing a refreshing respite from the scorching heat. Most of the people avoid traveling during this time of the year; instead, they would love to stay inside enjoying a hot cup of tea with pakoras.
So, had we, until once an idea popped into our mind for a vacation to someplace where we can enjoy this lovely weather in its full swing. How the rain carries something unique in its different regions made monsoon traveling truly worth for us. Ever since we frequently plan out a short trip during this season. Believe us, with the onset of monsoon, several destinations in India bloom into natural magnificence.
Here’re some of the stunning locations we explored by far that conquered our heart!
Enamoring Munnar
Your chance to experience downpours the Bollywood style! Fog provoked rolling tea gardens and spice manor with dewdrops flowing from the leaves. Visiting Munnar in August gave us a heavenly vibe to us. The high mountains half-canvassed in mist while the monsoon revived everything it touched in this city.
It was an ideal getaway for us because we were searching for some peaceful time amid the hills.
Also, while vacationing here during the rainy season, you can appreciate the majority of spots without any haste and at the off-season costs!
Lake Providence Nainital
Settled in a verdant valley with several lakes – Nainital radiates another paradisiacal appeal. From enjoying a boat ride on Naini Lake touched by raindrops to a ride on the aerial ropeway up to the Snow View Point, Nainital did not let us down. A sudden downpour and you’ll witness gigantic mountain getting lost amidst it. We also had fun while trailing around the buzzing Mall Road. Especially at late night the lit shops and cozy restaurants around the lake made the aura more enthralling for us.
Further, if you are a foodie must visit the Sonam food court run by Tibetan couple to devour the authentic Tibetan cuisine. Relishing hot bowl of Thupka, Thin Thuk, and Fried Rice with rain outside was another cherishing moment for us.
Adrenaline Rushing Leh
The monsoon is the perfect time to visit Leh as the turquoise lakes get more captivating during this time of the year. Additionally, it’s a hub for adventure and nature lovers as you’ll love paragliding and hiking at Leh just as we did. In fact, monsoon has opened up more doors for challenging treks in Leh such as Markha Valley trek and Kang Yatse trek.
During the monsoon, the water-level remains high on the Indus river. So, we also decided to go for white-water rafting that gave us an astounding experience.
Wet and Wild Meghalaya
As we all know well, Meghalaya receives the highest rainfall on the planet, so we had to plan this one. First, we visited Mawsynram; the place has a bounty of natural fascinations to lure the tourists.
Then we landed at Cherrapunji to cross man-made natural marvels called living root bridges. Rooted in the dense tropical forest, this bridge was shrouded in mist and rain offering an astounding view — an Insta worthy spot.
Further, we took a 3-hour drive in the East Khasi Hills, south of Shillong to visit Mawlynnong, designated as the “Cleanest Village in Asia.” A prominent model of community-based ecotourism. We preferred to stay here at one of the beautiful treehouses built for tourists by the locals. Also, visit a Sky View terrace atop the tallest tree in the woods where you’ll have a panoramic glimpse of the village and scenes spread till the Bangladesh border.
Also, while in Shillong stroll around traditional-style Shillong Iewduh Bara Bazar to taste local street food. It opens daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
